Country music star Chris Young recounted on Twitter the harrowing moments when a gunman opened fire during a music festival Sunday on the Las Vegas Strip killing at least 59 people and injuring hundreds more.

'Spent I don't know how long on the floor of a trailer behind the stage...know multiple people are dead,' Young wrote. 'Listening to that gunfire...'

'I'm literally shaking still.'

About 5:40 a.m. he tweeted again: 'I'm not gonna say anything else other than I'm lucky to be alive. As are many others... and so many people are gone... this is heartbreaking.'

Young was not on the festival's lineup but is currently touring with Jason Aldean who was performing when the gunfire broke out just before 10:10 p.m.

Other Nashville artists including Eric Church, Jake Owen and Sam Hunt performed at the concert.

Young, known for his distinctive baritone and for blending traditional and contemporary country styles, became one of the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry in August.

According to police, the gunman fired from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay, which overlooks the venue. Police said numerous firearms had been been found in the room.

Police named the shooter as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, a resident of Mesquite, Nev., a city 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Paddock killed himself before police stormed his hotel room, according to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo.
